Rise Up(dates)! October 22
Last week, we stood in solidarity with Nash, a high school student who was assaulted by Student Resource Officers in the High School. The same SROs that assaulted Lisa's daughter a year ago. As I type this email Lisa is sitting at Kingston City Court with this young man, because he was charged with Resisting Arrest - after he says he was grabbed just because he was being approached by someone he "had problems with".
Where was the adult that could help the kids talk through an issue? We don't get that here. Instead, we have police officers, who are consistently criminalizing our children. We need these SROs out of the school. We need Police Accountability.
Make sure you come out to the Reenvisioning the Police Commission Forum as we move towards Police Accountability in Kingston.
Yesterday, over fifty people participated in a Community Conversation about Reparations at Old Dutch Church in Kingston. The room was filled with spirited discussions about our history, our present, and our path forward. Thanks to everyone at Radio Kingston for collaboration on this really important conversation. There will be more discussions, and more actions to move us forward.
Below you'll see some of the important upcoming events. Make sure you stop by our table and say HI! at the My Kingston Kids Halloween Fest!
